Believe
it or not, but medical education in Russia is cheaper than what
it is in India! The annual cost of medical education in state-run
Russian medical institutes is between Rs 1.2 lakh and 1.7 lakh.
This is inclusive of tuition fees, study material, hostel stay and
life insurance. In Maharashtra itself, the annual tuition fees in
private medical colleges is Rs 2 lakh per year. Hostel, study material
and life insurance costs extra.
Even
the private medical colleges in the city accept this. "Also
their degree is accepted world-wide," Vishwajeet Kadam, Joint
Secretary, BVP medical college tells us. According to Dr Y P Kumar,
Head of International Operations, Department of Science and Technology,
Government of India, he said: "Already Indo-Russian academic
co-operation is gaining momentum. But even more thrust has been
added in the last five years owing to efforts from the government
on both sides." Vijay Bhatkar of Isquare IT tells us that
while India holds the key in IT education, Russia has an edge
in basic concepts like mathematics and medical science.
